Mohammed Wakil rates power sector reform huge success

ABUJA (Federal Ministry of Power Report) - The Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil has affirmed during the reviewed of development in the power sector in 2014 that the power sector reform under President Goodluck Jonathan is a huge success considering what the administration inherited from previous administrations.

He stated this when he delivered a speech at the 2014 Ministerial Press Briefing held by the Minister of Power in Abuja lately. The Minister added that after long hours of stagnation, the power sector is now set for unprecedented growth, indicating that the Jonathan administration has set an unbeatable record in the power sector. He further applauded the power sector reforms, noting that the fundamental framework for sustainable power supply has been laid out and the reform is now fine-tuning the teething problems that emerged from the exercise.

Mohammed Wakil informed that the administration has successfully privatized  the distribution and generation sub- sectors; adding that substantial investment is ongoing in the transmission sector to address decades of infrastructural neglect,  whilst private sector participation is being looked into.

“The power sector is undergoing a revolution under President Goodluck Jonathan. While we are not fully there, we have taken major steps towards sustainable electricity supply to our people. I appeal to Nigerians to exercise patience. Just as the nation is seeking to overcome teething problems in the telecom sector, so also are we to resolve the challenges arising from the power sector reform,” the Minister said.
