Orji wins PDP Senatorial ticket for Abia Central
The Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has been elected the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s ticket for Abia Central Senatorial seat.
The governor, who was the sole contestant for the position, polled 221 votes of the 222 votes cast with one voided vote.
Announcing the results at the end of the primaries held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the returning officer, Ndidi Okereke, said a total of 222 delegates were accredited.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Orji, who will conclude his second term as governor in May next year, thanked God and all Abia people who were instrumental to the success of his administration.
Stating that he was happy with his victory, the governor said the decision to go to the Senate is his but that of Abians and that he was merely responding to their to represent them at the Senate.
According to him, Abia people had demonstrated their love in practical terms through their vote and that the process of democracy in the state has been deepened through the process.
Mr Orji said the country would be better if all elections in the country went the same way the Abia Central senatorial primaries did.
The pledged that if elected in the main election as a senator, he would see himself as a representative of the people and that he owed the people a duty to speak for them and would not disappoint them.
The governor said he would cherish the trust Abians had for him and implored Abians to help in different ways to build Abia.
